Integrative Care for Diabetes

It has been suggested that both integrative medicine(s) and integrative care improves outcomes for people living with diabetes including blood sugar control and quality of life. This study will test if naturopathic care is helpful in patients with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved targets for blood sugar control. Participants will be followed for a period of two years.

Participant responsibilities:

Attend a baseline visit and up to 15 follow-up visits through the course of the two year study.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes that is not adequately controlled; seeing a family health doctor
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to answer questions in English or have an English speaking care provider who can attend all study visits

Location of study:

Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, Brampton Naturopathic Teaching Clinic (William Osler Brampton Civic Hospital) and the Wise Elephant Family Health Team clinics.

Duration:

Participants will be followed for two years

Remuneration:

Participants will receive reimbursement for parking costs to attend study visits and a fixed stipend to cover supplement costs.

Diagnosis:

Type 2 diabetes.
