Withania somnifera as an Intervention for Vertigo in the Management of Ménière’s Disease: A Case Report

Abstract

Ménière’s disease (MD) is a disorder of the inner ear, with a triad of symptoms consisting of spontaneous and episodic vertigo, aural fullness and/or tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss. Increasing evidence suggests that psychological factors may play a significant role in the onset of the disease and/or its progression. Current conventional treatment does not provide a cure, nor complete relief of symptoms, and there is limited literature on alternative treatment options.

Oral Health Care in Canada – A View from the Trenches.

PURPOSE: Concern is increasing over the effect of lack of access to oral health care on the oral health, and hence general health, of disadvantaged groups. In preparation for a national symposium on this issue, key informants across Canada were canvassed for their perceptions of oral health services and their recommendations for improving oral health care delivery. This paper reports the results of that survey.

Estimated Effects of Whole-system Naturopathic Medicine in Select Chronic Disease Conditions: A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND: Naturopathic medicine (NM) is a holistic approach to primary care that almost always employs multi-modal interventions, i.e. nutrition and lifestyle change recommendations plus dietary supplements. While evidence supports individual elements of NM, the whole practice is often critiqued for its lack of evidence. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and AMED from inception to April, 2012 as well as conducting hand searches of existing grey literature.

Repositioning Individualized Homeopathy as a Psychotherapeutic Technique With Resolvable Ethical Dilemmas

The author puts forth the argument that the complementary and alternative medicine community should endorse specific aspects of the entire individualized homeopathic process, including its unique holistic consultation process, having dedicated lengths of time to enumerate the complete illness context, and the prescribing of homeopathic remedies, to reposition this modality as a psychotherapeutic technique.

North American naturopathic medicine in the 21st century: Time for a seventh guiding principle – Scientia Critica

The World Health Organization strategy for global health includes a culturally-sensitive blending of western biomedicine with traditional forms of healing; in practical terms this approach is often referred to as integrative medicine. One distinct element within the systems of North American integrative healthcare is naturopathic medicine; while the basic premise of its fundamental approach to care – supporting healthy lifestyle behaviors – is as old as medicine itself, the early history of organized naturopathy in North America was heavy in theory and light on critical analysis.
