Part-time Instructor, Microbiology (BAS216)

In our continuous efforts to build our faculty resources, CCNM is requesting resume submissions for part-time faculty in the following areas:

Microbiology BAS216: The subject of microbiology is delivered in two term courses; BAS215 Microbiology I in the fall, and BAS216 Microbiology II the winter term. Microbiology I (BAS 215) focus is on classification, structure, replication and basic concepts of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites and their outline of pathogenesis. Students learn the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations caused by the major groups of medically important bacteria and their laboratory diagnosis. Microbiology II (BAS 216) focus is on medically important viral, fungal and parasitic pathogens, as well as, various disease manifestations and laboratory diagnosis. Students review clinical manifestations and diagnosis of infectious diseases of various body systems. Throughout both courses, students examine host-parasite relations, normal microbial flora, nosocomial infections, laboratory acquired infections, infection control, antibiotics and immunization, biosafety, sterilization and disinfection, zoonoses, emerging infections and bio-terrorism. Students are encouraged to review various naturopathic interventions pertaining to management of infectious diseases throughout the course.

Hourly rate range starts at $72.46 and increases based upon education and experience. The successful candidate must be available to instruct from January 2018 to July 2018.

This course is scheduled weekly during the winter term: Wednesdays 2 - 4 p.m. (one cohort)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a Masters or PhD in the related discipline and/or will be a Board licensed healthcare professional with at least five years of clinical experience.
  • Experience and/or training in teaching methods, measurement and assessment at a post -secondary level.
  • Excellent, demonstrable communication skills.
  • Established research publication record is desirable.
  • Positive, demonstrated commitment to student success.
