Course description

This is a two part webinar series on plant-based medicine and nutrition and how a Whole Food Plant-Based (WFPB) Diet can help treat a multitude of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, chronic inflammation and hormonal disorders. This lecture will focus on evidence-based research supporting the health benefits of a vegan, plant-based diet and address many common nutritional questions about various fad diets. It will also cover the pitfalls patients often have and how we can help them make simple changes to prevent and treat chronic health issues.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn the various forms of plant-based diets and what differentiates them from each other
  • Review the research on the WFPB diet and its benefits in treating and preventing different diseases
  • Become familiar with how to assess and treat patients who are vegetarian or vegan
  • Learn how to clinically implement plant-based nutrition in practice
  • Help patients address common nutritional pitfalls most commonly seen in practice

Dr. Julie S.M. Chan, ND, R.Ac - Instructor

Dr. Julie S.M. Chan, ND, R.Ac., is a board-certified ND, registered acupuncturist, intravenous parenteral therapist, and NES practitioner. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Science in human biology, and then received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She is a member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario and is the director of Liberty Wellness Clinic in downtown Markham.
