Course description

The Lab Testing Series is a new high-quality, evidence-informed webinar series designed to improve patient care by helping practitioners recognize clinical presentations, select appropriate tests, establish baselines, interpret lab tests, monitor treatment progress, explain test results, and further clinical hypotheses.

This Introductory Session by George Gillson, MD, founder and medical director of Rocky Mountain Analytical examines the background process of getting a lab report into your hands from start to finish, and covers the benefits of laboratory assessments for patient care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the “value chain” (process of getting a lab report into your hands) from start to finish
  • Review laboratory test method development through the lens of accreditation guidelines
  • Learn the phases of the laboratory cycle
  • Identify how reference ranges are established
  • Define the concepts of sensitivity and specificity
INSTRUCTORS/SPEAKERS

George Gillson, MD, PHD, CCFP - Instructor

George began his training with a PhD in chemistry from the University of Alberta and then earned an MD from the University of Calgary. He practised family medicine for six years before founding Rocky Mountain Analytical, a private testing laboratory in Calgary. He has experienced the challenges of clinical practice firsthand, understands the role of the laboratory in the practice of medicine, and has solid expertise in the nutritional/natural approach to medicine. He continues to be the medical director of Rocky Mountain Analytical and lectures for the Fellowship of Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine, and for many other organizations nationally and internationally.
