Primary Research – Clinical Trials:

  1. Randomized clinical trial to assess the effect of melatonin on lung cancer recurrence and mortality (AMPLCaRe).

    • A large five-year multicentred trial that is being conducted in partnership with the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons.
    • Funded by the Lotte and John Hecht Memorial Foundation, with the provision of melatonin by SISU Inc., this study is expected to be completed by 2013.
       
  2. Pragmatic randomized clinical trial of naturopathic medicine’s ability to treat and prevent cardiovascular disease.

    • Multi-centre study supported by a joint project from the Canada Post Corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.
    • Single year trial taking place in Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver that finished in 2011 and will be published in 2012.
       
  3. Pilot study to assess the safety and effectiveness of a compound natural health product in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

    • Randomized trial to explore nutritional deficiencies associated with ADHD. This trial will also test a compound NHP for treatment in this population.
    • Funded jointly by a SickKids Research Foundation grant and SISU Inc., this trial should be completed in 2012.
       
  4. Randomized clinical trial to test the efficacy of cinnamon as an aid in diabetes to reduce blood sugar levels.

    • This study funded by New Chapter Industries to be published in 2012.
       
  5. Pilot study to explore the effect of three common homeopathic remedies on chronic whiplash.

    • Small-scale pilot study supported by the Homeonet Research Network of Canada should be completed in early 2012.
       
  6. Pilot study to test the effect of using classical homeopathy on insufficient lactation.
    • Small-scale pilot study supported by the Homeonet Research Network of Canada should be completed in 2012.
