NATUROPATHIC STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

 

The NSA Executive team for 2003-2004

The purpose of the Naturopathic Students’ Association (NSA) at CCNM is to act as a unifying force in college life and to represent all students enrolled at the college. More specifically, the NSA serves as a medium of communication between the student body, CCNM, administration, staff, Board of Governors, OAND and the CNA. It helps to initiate and sponsor activities which involve the interests of the student; represents the students on specific matters affecting academic interests; and contributes to advancing the quality of student life.

The President serves as the official representative of the student body and the NSA, provides direction to NSA committees in execution of their mandates, serves as chair of all NSA executive meetings and student assemblies, and is involved in the creation of events that will foster the spirit of community within the college.

The Vice President of Finance and Administration is responsible for recording the minutes of all NSA meetings, maintaining an up-to-date copy of the NSA constitution, preparing an annual budget/business plan for the fiscal year, paying of all expenses incurred and approved by the NSA, documenting all financial transactions made, collecting all receipts to support NSA expenditures within one week of an NSA-funded event, and is authorized to inspect, in conjunction with the President, the accounts of all organizations financially responsible to the NSA and monitor allocation of fundraising money.

The Vice President Internal Affairs is responsible for effectively communicating with the entire student body via e-mail and other means s/he sees fit. S/he is also responsible for overseeing the set-up and maintenance of the NSA Web site, serving as a link between the NSA and the newsletter committee, The Vine, ensuring that it is successful, and to promoting a positive and professional image for the school in conjunction with the VP External Affairs.

The Vice President External Affairs is responsible for effectively communicating with the entire student body with regards to events/issues outside of the school community, fostering a healthy relationship with other naturopathic medical schools students’ associations, helping to foster future affiliations with various health care professionals and institutions in conjunction with the President, and the planning of medical student events such as Ontario Medical Student Weekend and Medgames.

The Vice President Academic, Classroom Development is responsible for overseeing monthly Academic and Clinic Forums in conjunction with the VP Clinical Education, being the vice-chair of the Classroom and Clinical Education Council representing the NSA, communicating concerns of the student body to the CCEC and bringing issues back to the NSA (and class representatives), and communicating with the Dean of the Naturopathic Program and the Associate Dean of Program Development.

The Vice President Academic, Curriculum Development is responsible for overseeing the annual CCNM Program Focus Groups nominations, participating in monthly Focus Group meetings in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Program Development, and representing the NSA on the Standing Curriculum Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, the Recruitment and Admissions Task Force, and the Continuing Education Council.

The Vice President Clinical Education is responsible for communicating with the Chief Naturopathic Medical Officer and the Clinic Manager on issues related to Clinical Education, overseeing monthly Academic and Clinic forums in conjunction with the VP Academic Classroom Development, being the vice-chair of the Classroom and Clinical Education Council representing the NSA, communicating concerns of the student body to the CCEC and bringing issues back to the NSA (and class representatives), and representing the NSA on the Standing Curriculum Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee.

The Vice President Student Services is a voting member of the Student Services council, representing the NSA. S/he is also responsible for the registration of all student clubs, represents these clubs at NSA executive meetings, acts as a liaison between the Learning Resources Centre and the NSA, oversees all CCNM student activities in the tennis court and student lounge, is a voting member of the Food Services Committee, oversees the publication of the NSA/CCNM student handbook, ensures that there is student input in the admissions/interviewing process, ensures that the administration effectively communicates student community service, seminar, hydrotherapy and massage, observation, and preceptorship requirements, monitors awareness of programs (e.g., bursaries) provided by student services, and provides the Survival Guide to incoming students.

The two Vice President Social Programmers are responsible for chairing the Orientation committee, organizing the Orientation experience, organizing all school-wide social events, overseeing the social committee, developing the buddy system with a volunteer co-ordinator, and overseeing the planning and execution of the Professional Formal.

The Board of Governors Representative is a student voting member of the CCNM Board of Governors (BOG). S/he attends all scheduled NSA Executive and BOG meetings and represents NSA concerns and opinions at BOG meetings.

The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors Representatives are voting members of the OAND and attend OAND and NSA meetings. They represent NSA opinions and concerns at OAND meetings and help to foster regular interactions between students and Naturopathic Doctors.

The Canadian Naturopathic Association Representative attends CNA and NSA meetings, and represents NSA concerns and opinions at CNA meetings.

The Class Representatives act as a liaison between their respective class and the NSA Executive. They are also responsible for attending NSA Executive meetings (only one is required to attend each meeting), organizing the monthly Academic and Clinic Forums for their respective classes, attending the Classroom and Clinical Education Council, overseeing all class events, and communicating all issues with the appropriate NSA Executive members.
